IFE-ILE's mission &
vision
IFÉ-ILÉ
is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, promotion
and cultivation of Afro-Cuban culture and folklore through the arts.
We seek to develop cross-cultural understanding and to educate community
members and visitors through traditional and contemporary dance,
music performances, festivals, lectures, and workshops.
IFÉ-ILÉ's activities educate as well as engage audiences,
so people are not merely entertained but actually learn about, appreciate
and even participate in the rich folkloric traditions of Afro-Cubans.
(Learn about our classes and workshops,
lectures and seminars, and our annual
festival)
At
our events, dancers in colorful, traditional dress and drummers/singers
playing instruments including congas, batá drums and checkeres
showcase Afro-Cuban cultural traditions ranging from sacred Orisha
dances to folkloric rumba.
Through
our annual festival and our workshops, classes and events at schools,
universities and both neighborhood and tourist centers, we not only
promote Afro-Cuban culture but also ensure its preservation and
cultivation. By reaching out to underserved communities, we build
the cultural awareness of youth and adults who otherwise might have
little exposure to Afro-Cuban traditions.
Our presentations appeal to people of all backgrounds and help
build appreciation for all African Diasporic cultures. Partnering
organizations urge us to return to their communities, telling us
how meaningful and inspirational they are to attendees/participants.
